Precision Steel had grown tired with the downtime they were experiencing on their current 6’ x 10’ waterjet system and the poor response time they received when they needed service. CONFIGURING THE JET EDGE MID RAIL DUAL CARRIAGE SYSTEM:

An 8’ x 13’ cutting envelope with a mid-rail gantry was chosen
Two 3-axis cutting heads with dual programmable carriages to double productivity and 12” of servoed travel where mounted
60k psi of cutting pressure driven by a 100hp UHP HERO Intensifier Pump, with Jet Smart Controls was paired with the system
The isolated catch tank incorporated an air bladder to raise water levels for underwater cutting
Additional productivity options were added including Lights Out Cutting with Contact Height Sensing and Pressure Monitors
IGEMS Nesting Software allows for cutting two like parts simultaneously or for Mirror Cutting a single piece
An Abrasive Removal System was included along with the Dense Phase Bulk Abrasive Hopper

A process the competitors told us could not be done!

WHAT ARE DUAL CARRIAGE MID RAIL MOTION SYSTEMS?

The Edge Dual Carriage waterjet cutting machine is for those who demand both accuracy and productivity from their investment. The dual Z carriages operate independently so they can be programmed to double team a single part or cut two like parts simultaneously. Boasting ±0.001″ linear positional accuracy over 12″ (304 mm) per axis, ±0.001″ repeatability (bidirectional) and ±0.003″ renishaw ballbar tests of squareness and straightness over 24″ (608 mm), means never giving up on quality again.

Durability begins with component quality and frame construction. The precision machined cross beam gantry is constructed with heavy duty steel, capable of handling multiple z carriages without deflection. Precision anti-backlash balls screws are directly coupled to servo motors and absolute encoders and heavy duty linear ways drive accuracy and repeatability. The 3-axis and 5-axis abrasive cutting heads breeze through aluminum, stainless steel and other specialty alloys offering near-net shape cuts.
