Plugging – An oil or gas well is plugged and abandoned when it reaches the end of its useful life or becomes a dry hole. The process includes removing and salvaging available well bore casing, tubulars, and other equipment. Plugs are placed in the borehole to prevent migration of fluids between the different formations and the migration of gas or fluids to the surface.
Hot Tapping – Hot Tapping is the process of drilling a hole through a pressure barrier using special equipment and procedures to ensure that the pressure and fluids are safely contained when access is made. Hot tapping is often used to enable access to the wellbore when wellhead valves jam closed.
