Custom Application: Custom Applications consider high pressure water as a unique method to perform a processing function that is currently performed via a different method. Specific applications might include trimming, slitting, routing/hand cutting, piercing unique materials, surface preparation such as paint stripping and degreasing, complex shape cutting, food processing and more. In any one of these instances, a high pressure waterjet system might provide higher quality and efficiency while eliminating secondary operations.

Custom Configuration: Custom Configuration focuses on customizing the waterjet cutting system around a processing application already being performed with waterjet cutting or identified as a waterjet cutting opportunity. The goal of a custom system design is to prioritize your specific production goals: e.g. precision, finish quality, throughput, efficiency, material utilization, safety, etc. and configuring a complete system to achieve those goals.

CUSTOM CONFIGURATION SOUNDS COMPLICATED AND EXPENSIVE

A Custom Application Analysis first has to confirm the feasibility of waterjet cutting around your production goals and equipment budgets. This review often begins with cutting test samples and grading finish quality, precision, and process times. The data collected is compared to the current methods being utilized to determine if the evaluation should continue. If waterjet is deemed to be an appropriate method, the evaluation will move to a Custom Configuration process with a complete system designed and configured around your stated production goals.

Custom configuration is not for everybody. If you are new to waterjet cutting, have a narrow range of products being cut, don’t run the system frequently, don’t have a high precision requirement, etc., the return on the additional custom configuration investment to improve throughput, productivity, quick change overs may not generate an ROI for your shop. However, as production volumes increase, it is inevitable you will bump up against operator and machine hour constraints. Also, depending upon your requirements, scrap rates and material utilization will take bites out of your gross margins. ULTRA HIGH PRECISION IN SPECIALTY ALLOYS

Jet Edge cutting systems first and foremost deliver outstanding accuracy with +/- 0.001″ Linear positional accuracy over 12′ (304 mm) per axis, a +/- 0.001″ Repeatability (Bi-directional) and a 0.0004″ Backlash – maximum. Operations requiring a high tolerance combined with high efficiency will achieve the greatest results with a Jet Edge High Rail system. Part holding fixtures are attached directly to the catch tank and allow for quick setup, repeatable production and underwater cutting.

8 cutting heads and with programmable head positioning on a 6’ x 10’ cutting table created the main working envelope. By incorporating a dual cart, loading/unloading shuttle system, finished parts can be retrieved offline and a new blank sheet loaded during the cut cycle of the next set of parts.

CONTRACT MANUFACTURING –
FLEXIBLE VARIETY OF MATERIALS, LARGE SHEETS

This contract manufactures serves a broad array of industries, mitigating business risk associated with your eggs all in one basket. A large cutting envelope, 12’ x 12’, was specified to create cutting zones for single parts and nested parts. A spreader bar was used to mount three abrasive cutting heads, each with its own servo motor control. Materials including composites, rubbers, forgings, and stainless steel are part of the offering.

INDUSTRIAL PARTS CLEANING –
SPECIALTY APPLICATION

In the Semiconductor industry and highly engineered Pad Conditioners undergo a sintering process. Each part needs to be cleaned with high pressure water, safely and without contamination. Two cleaning swivels are mounted on a motorized Z carriage, across a 4’ x 4’ table. A stainless steel tank, slats and cross supports were used to avoid any contamination, with light curtains and safety shields to protect operators.
